The Poetry Corner - Invisible Appearance Of A Tired Heart

Recently, I have been in a very emotionally-drenching situation. Sometimes, no matter how we project ourselves as a strong person, there are occasions where we're beaten by melancholy. There are those times where we submit ourselves to loneliness, just to feel again that we are human and that we are not as invincible as the superheroes in films. Well, for me it's good though that once in a while you recognize yourself as a plain human with normal emotions and candid reactions to events and situations that are presented to us. Vulnerability is not a bad thing after all. Being one, once in a while helps you re-affirm of your being an earthly creature. And here's what I'm into these past few days. I just transcribed it into a poem. Just read between the lines.

The Poetry Corner: Ashes of Burnt Eyebrows

Flattered to have received positive comments regarding the poem I re-published here in my blog entitled I Need To Be Loved delivered by my former Grade-4 student Erika Marie Esteban.
And to delight you again with another masterpiece of mine. Here once again a simple poem I especially composed way back March 21, 2006 to my Grade 5- First Honor Ephraim Ders Murro which he delivered during the graduation ceremony that year.
Currently, Ram (as I fondly called him) is now a sophomore student of University of the Philippines - Diliman, Quezon City taking up a five-year degree course. I just forgot if it's Mass Communication, Business Administration or Political Science - I need to ask him to be sure. And I'm still in constant contact with him and even to my former grade school students. In fact last May 2010, I had arranged a get together with my former students when I went back to the Philippines for vacation. I was surprised how big they were already and I even jokingly shouted out "Stop growing guys!". Now, they are pursuing their dreams in college and seeing them excel in school is equivalent to my achievement too. That my mentoring has paid off.

The Poetry Corner: I Need To Be Loved

I was requested by our school principal to create a poem to be recited in the recognition day of my pupil in Grade 4- English. At first I told her, maybe we could just research for a poem fitting for that year Department of Education's theme. Don't ask me what's the theme....LoLs...I completely forgot about. But she insisted it would be nice if I can compose a simple one. And so the obedient in me, quickly submitted to her prodding. My feet was put to testing water when I find it hard what poem to create. It took me several nights of thinking until I came to this lovely yet meaningful poem.

Poetry 003: Where Do I Start?

Here's another poem I wrote to breathe out my emotion during one of the weakest point in my life.

Sometimes, life is too cruel, sometimes it's mind boggling. It's the reason why I took time to let my emotional distress out. One is, to release and breathe out loud. Two, to escape the monotony of my life during those trying times. Penning this poem was one great way to ease-out the unexplained paranoia I was suffering back then. It somehow helped me though. I was just in my life's lowest point that I'm so desperate what to do and where to start again.

Originally, I manuscripted this poem last June 2, 2001. On the contrary, it is nice sometimes when we're in a state of depression because it fuels us to think deeper, contemplate further, and meticulously plan the next step we must take ---afraid of committing the same mistakes again and again. I won't elaborate what went wrong that time but it was a thing that gravely frustrates me. After that rain, my optimism and drive for life heightened in great leaps and bounds. I know there is a God above who controls me and who direct my actions. I was able to bounce back. And before I deviate further, here's the poem I am talking about:

Poetry 002: Ashes of Burnt Eyebrows

I went scrolling down files in my post poems dot com account and my eyes easily captured this poem. Upon the sight of it, I quickly rolled down memory lane. The time when I was still teaching Grade School pupils in a school in Las Pinas where my Tito owned. Run and operated by his daughter and a cousin Bam. I was compelled to create one upon the constant proddings of our principal then. And so my creative side had to work and think of a great poem worthy of a graduation recital by my first honor pupil Ephraim Ders Murro - this kid was such a clever boy. He was a 4th grader then but think like he's a first year HS student. An error has no room for him which is why I should deliver well in my class just to live up to his expectations. He has this sword-sharp's memory. I can see myself in him when I was in grade school days since I'm really good at Math. I remember my Math teacher and also an adviser in Grade 4 giving me a flat grade of 97% in Math in our 3rd Quarter Period. Wow, the highest amongst my classmates. Well, siguro dahil talagang mahilig lang akong mag-aral noon..pero ngayon..hay buhay ni pag memorya kinakatamaran ko na at si kalimot na ako..hahaha. I hope I can still boost my memory --kelangan ko na sigurong uminom ng 'Memory Gap" --meron bang gatas na ganun? Lols...hahaha.

POETRY 001 : Distance Won't Break Us Apart

It has been said that" a long distance relationship don't work or shall I say most of the time don't work". Well, I beg to disagree, hard as it may seem but it is still upon the agreement of the two opposites sex whether they'll continue or just let it fade away with time. We can never really tell nor we can predict of what's gonna happen. Suffice to say, it still up to the both of them.

"Distance isn't for the fearful, it is for the bold. It is for those willing to spend a lot of time alone in exchange for the little time with the one they love. It is for those who knows a good thing when they see it even if they don't see it nearly enough. It is for those who believe and continue to believe that distance won't necessarily break each other up."

Torture

-----00000-----
Dito sa loob sa kabila ng dingding
Sa likod ng pinto sa gitna ng dilim
Lumakad, tumayo, humiga, umupo
Isip lumilipad sa malayong-malayo
-----00000-----
Wala doon, wala dito
Wala sa kanya kundi na sa iyo
Ang umaga, ang tanghali, ang gabi, ang hapon
At ang bawat sandali ng bawat panahon
-----00000-----
Dito sa silid sa sulok sa gilid
Sa taas ng sahig, sa ibabaw ng banig
Bumiling biling, pumikit' dumilat
Diwa'y gising at kalat-kalat
-----00000-----
Hindi bangungot hindi panaginip
Hindi guni-guni o gawa ng isip
Sulyap sa saloobin ng isang hapo
Kapiraso ng pangarap na malabong malabo
-----00000-----
Dito sa ngayon, sa harap ng kasalukuyan
Sa likod ng kahapon, ikatlo sa kinabukasan
Nakaupo, nag-iisip sa gitna ng dilim
Naghahanap ng matulis na patalim

Wala doon, wala dito, walang makita ni kahit anino.

Goodbye Is Easy But Hard To Say

While I was eating my dinner (mind you my dinner is a big round "kubus with cheese") I suddenly remember my account in http://postpoem.org.  If you'd ask why I maintain an account there, well, I'm a guy who's a lover of prose and poetry. It's my biggest dream to write down a great song's lyrics and submit it to a song writing search or competition and be interpreted by a famous artist of my choice. I have lots of poems in store in that site. So going back, without a second thought I quickly open my account there (good thing I am organized when it comes to different emails from different websites that's why I don't have a bad experience in the net having trouble signing in/logging in due to forgotten account or password).

And here's what caught my attention when I finally accessed it. It was a poem I wrote during Pinoy Big Brother -Season 1 Edition. To bring you down the memory lane, this was the time of Nene, Jason, Cass, Uma and others which I've forgotten already. When the controversial Chix Alcala was evicted I wrote this poem. Damn, I was freakin' hooked with that Season 1 and I must assume all of you did the same too. Well, for reason that's it was the first reality show that ever landed in our prime time TV.

The PBB Season 1
By the way, the title of the poem is the same with the title of this post and here it goes:

GOODBYE IS EASY BUT HARD TO SAY

I came here to start a life
Inside a house ashamed of light
With strangers I learned to mingle
Like a meek sheep roaming the jungle

I came here to share my life
Inside a house with big brother's sight
Strangers now turned to great peers
Or maybe lovers starting an affair

I came here to share my dream
To be real whatever it may seem
Carefree, bubbly a group that is what we
In the big brother's house from dusk 'til wee

Now a twist has come to life
We need to vote-out another's pride
Our mind resist but decision persists
It's not ours but from the big bro's verdict

Tears fell down it can't be denied
It will flow down and should be cried out
Leaving the house doesn't mean ending
But greater friendship is just a beginning

Time now has come to cease
In big bro's house I will be release
Minutes away from my sudden eviction
People has come to a hard decision

Leaving big bro's house I can hardly step
My pace as if loaded with grief
There will always be a kind of misery
Every night in my wildest fancy

If I'm gonna ask I want to stay
But I hold no power but to obey
Decision has come to its finality
My whisper utterance I want to convey

"GOODBYE IS EASY BUT HARD TO SAY"

This was written way back November 6, 2005, Whew! six years had passed and I can still recall the scenes that night when one evictee should go out of the PBB House.

And here's my "Author Comments" in the lower portion of the post in that site:

Author's Notes/Comments:

"This are my thoughts transcripted to a poem minutes from Chx eviction. Undeniably, I have learned to love Chx for her candidness and being true to herself.  She has this great guts to act what she think and that makes her distinct from other.  She doesn't care of criticism as long as her actions speaks truly for herself."

So there you go guys, I was just having a memory recall and it just so happened that the first thing that crossed my mind was this incident. Correct me if my eardrums had it wrong, I guess there will be another upcoming season for the PBB later this year or early next year. I need to verify this information.

      Goodnight and God bless everyone!
