Mark Anthony Barriga - you may have lost your
fight for a quarterfinal slot in boxing but you've done you incredible best to
fight toe to toe with a former Olympic silver medalist Khazakh. What you have
shown in the ring was pure gallantry. Fighting for your country
and knowing that you're the only hope for a medal contention was quite an
enormous challenge.
The weight of expectations in your shoulder wasn't easy to
bear yet you've focused and showed the whole world that a Filipino fighter
never back down. That a Filipino fighter is always mission-ready to accept
whatever challenge he may in. The slimmest margin of 1 point (17-16) was enough
of a testament and proved that you were up on the world stage. That a story of
David fighting a Goliath wasn't a myth but a true legend. And you've gracefully
displayed it on the ring and helped us remember the story.
Perhaps, only few of us Filipinos will trek the road where Mark stands but let his story serves as an inspiration to all young boxing enthusiasts that hard work, devotion, and dedication are few of the many attitudes that an aspirant must possess.
Good luck on your
next endeavors and hopefully when BRAZIL 2016 comes, you'll be headlining the
country for an impressive win. Thank you for representing us Filipinos and our
country. WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU."
I was just searching what happened to him on net but there you are hohoh anyways its sad that he had lost in his fight for some olympic medal but what he had done i guess was a big deal for us i mean he fought for our country and that made me so proud
ReplyDeletei heard government were lacking for support for our athletes i mean the facilities the equipment were not enough maybe thats why olympic gold is far by reach hmmm maybe paquiao and other rich athletes must collaborate with government to help our athletes maybe a sports center for all atheles or something like that
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's the attitude Mecoy. Even though he'd lost in his bid my respect remains strong. It's not easy to come up in the ring, fight with all your strength and at the end of the bout, you'll loss. It's a big blow that sometimes others can't handle. But knowing how sport our boxers are, they show a graceful acceptance of defeat. I am still proud of him at 18, he's already and Olympian.
ReplyDeleteMaybe our government should really put focus on the grassroots level of sports to produce potential medalists. And corruption must be stopped inside the sport's body. You're right, we should improve in our facilities because it can help a lot. Having modern facilities for training under a conducive condition boost the morale of every athlete. Full backing-up from the government must be seen.
ReplyDeleteI actually cannot fully blame the government. I personally want them to focus more on fixing the political and economic difficulties that we're going through before anything else. If its all done, then they must start reaching out to our athletes and everybody else who represents the country. Also, I believe that athleticism comes from within. It doesn't depend on training facilities of whatnot, rather on self determination and passion. Just take a look at our dragon boat team who worked their asses off on our dirty rivers. They became world champions.
ReplyDeleteEvery athlete representing the Philippines is certainly worth praising! Win or lose, they are still our pride!
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the full coverage of the match but I felt every piece of the excitement since I'm exchanging text messages with a friend during the fight. And judging from my friend's updates, it's enough for me to feel proud.
ReplyDeleteMark Anthony Barriga will always be a Champion in our hearts! Mabuhay ka Mark!
ReplyDeleteHaven't watched any of the Olympics game but I think he did a good job. :) Thumbs up!
